Cooling Options
There are number of options available through the City, including
- Camp Samac outdoor pool
- Indoor swimming options
- Lakeview Park beach - (Waterfront parking is in effect; check beach closures at durham.ca/CheckandGo)
- Parks and trails
- Splash pads
- City recreation facilities
Heat Events
Environment and Climate Change Canada sends notification when weather forecasts show a Heat Event in our area.
When a Heat Event occurs
The temperature exceeds 30°C (reaches 31°C and over) and overnight temperatures are at least 20°C or Humidex is at least 40 degrees.
During a Heat Event, the City has a procedure in place to offer extended hours of operation for splash pads, outdoor pools and beach supervision:
- Camp Samac outdoor pool will extend hours until sunset. Visit Oshawa.ca/swim for swims schedule, admission rates and additional details.
- Hours of operation at all splash pads will extend until sunset
- Lifeguard supervision at Lakeview Park beach East (weather permitting) will be supervised from 11:30am until sunset. Note: Check beach closures at durham.ca/CheckandGo before visiting
- The Civic Dome will have a temporary closure when dome temperatures exceed 30 °C (before visiting contact the Civic Recreation Complex)
- The City will share updates about extended hours to the Emergency/Severe Weather newsfeed and @OshawaCity X account. Also check our Service Disruption and Closures newsfeed for facility impacts
