World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Oshawa and Elder Abuse Information Session

The City of Oshawa has proclaimed June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (W.E.A.A.D.) in Oshawa and is encouraging community members to participate in recognizing this day.

Flag Raising

The community is invited to attend a flag raising at City Hall on June 15.

Observed annually, W.E.A.A.D. represents a global commitment to understanding, preventing and responding to the abuse and neglect of older adults. This day unites communities, organizations and nations in promoting older adults’ right to live with dignity, security and the opportunity to contribute to their communities.

Location: City Hall, Civic Square

Elder Abuse Information Session

In partnership with the Durham Elder Abuse Network (D.E.A.N.) and OSCC55+, the City is hosting an information session on how to prevent elder abuse on June 23.

This workshop will teach you how to support older adults in our community who may be experiencing elder abuse, identify the warning signs, and learn small, practical steps that you could take in a safe and respectful way to help an older adult who is possibly experiencing abuse.

Date: Tuesday, June 23
Time: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Delpark Homes Centre, Leisure Room

This event is free and open for all to attend. Registration is not required. Light refreshments will be served.
