Park and Gate Access Permits

Park access permits

If you're doing any construction work which involves accessing your property through City parkland (e.g. pool installation, backyard landscaping, etc.) you must apply for a temporary park access permit. Permits are only issued between May 15 and October 15.

Please fill out the Park Access Permit form to begin the permit process. A City inspector will get back to you within two weeks with a decision.

If you're accessing through a public boulevard a Roadway Damage Deposit is also required.

If you're occupying any part of a road, a Road Occupancy Permit is also required.

Gate access permits

Private property owners must apply to install gates leading to City parkland.

Property owners must fill out the Park Access Permit form before installation, specifying the location of the proposed gate. City staff will get back to you within two weeks with a decision.

Gate access will not be granted into:

If approved:

  • The gate must be built using the specified construction detail provided to the property owner by the City.
  • The property owner pays the entire cost of the gate and installation.
  • A follow-up inspection by a City inspector is mandatory to determine that the gate meets the requirements.
  • If the construction requirements are not met, the gate must be rebuilt or removed, and the fence returned to its original state.
  • The property owner is responsible for the maintenance of the gate and must ensure it is closed and locked when not in use for access to the park.
