By-law Enforcement

Municipal Law Enforcement Officers work with people to ensure they are complying with a variety of by-laws. They also respond to complaints and identify property use violations. We do not respond to civil matters.

The property maintenance and standards section may help you understand some of the common requirements of a property owner.

Complaints

You can make a by-law complaint by contacting Service Oshawa.

You will be required to provide

  • Your name, address and phone number (information about a complainant is confidential)
  • The address of the property with the violation
  • Details about the concern

Note: Anonymous complaints are not investigated.

Apartment building audits

Municipal Law Enforcement and Fire Services will be auditing multi-unit buildings between September 22-25, 2025 from 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. These audits will be focused on fire safety and property maintenance. Four buildings have been selected for this round. Individual unit inspections will be available upon request. To learn more about the buildings selected, and how to submit a unit inspection request, contact Service Oshawa at (905) 436-3311.
