TeachingCity Art Projects
The Culture department at the City of Oshawa partners with TeachingCity to develop and present arts and culture projects.
TeachingCity brings together the City of Oshawa and its education and research partners to address Oshawa's urban issues through innovation, collaboration, applied research and shared experiential learning opportunities.
Arts and culture projects delivered through the TeachingCity program are executed in collaboration with Durham College's Faculty of Media, Art & Design.

Recreation centres temporary public art installations
Fine Art students from Durham College’s Community Collaborations course in 2024 were invited to submit proposals for this temporary public art installation to celebrate how Oshawa is a community committed to creating a sustainable environment. The students were given a tour of Second Marsh and the McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve by Friends of Second Marsh.
This project provided an opportunity for local students to showcase their artistic talents and highlight Oshawa’s natural environment and their relationship with the landscape.

Civic Square community mural project
The mural on the fence in front of Oshawa's Civic Square was developed in 2018 by students from Durham College's Fine Arts Community Collaborations course. The artwork expresses the theme of human rights to mark the creation of the City's first Diversity and Inclusion Plan.
Alexandra Park temporary public art installation
Temporary public art pieces were produced by students in Durham College's Fine Arts Community Collaboration course and installed at Alexandra Park through a partnership with the City, Durham College and Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
Arts Resource Centre Canada's 150th anniversary vinyl
Students from Durham College's Fine Arts Community Collaborations course created artwork on the exterior windows of the Arts Resource Centre to honour community milestone anniversaries.
