Civic Recreation Complex Project Updates

Civic Outdoor Track project

The City of Oshawa is investing $2.3 million to upgrade the Civic’s outdoor track, with project completion expected in early summer 2026.

Upgrades to the javelin and pole vault runways, the high jump area, and both long jump pits are now finished. These areas, along with the track and Field 1, will remain closed until the track resurfacing is complete.

We recognize that the outdoor track, Field 1, and related amenities are important community assets—supporting training, events, and hosting groups from across Durham Region and beyond. We understand the inconvenience caused by this closure and appreciate your patience as we work to deliver these much needed improvements.

The City remains committed to supporting user groups and events at alternative venues. For assistance, including of equipment loans, please contact us at fbo@oshawa.ca.

Please note that these areas may remain unavailable for use until the full track renovation is complete.

Unfavourable weather conditions prevented crews from completing the installation in fall 2025. Experts advised the City that moving forward in those conditions could lead to bubbling and require future repairs. To avoid long‑term issues and ensure a high‑quality surface, the City deferred the remaining work to 2026 based on expert recommendations. Crews have re‑mobilized in spring 2026 and will continue work as weather conditions allow until the project is fully completed.

Yes. Options like artificial heating and substitute adhesives were explored. However, the surface supplier advised these methods could compromise the track’s durability and performance.

The outdoor track will reopen once installation can be safely completed under favourable weather conditions. We are taking all reasonable steps to expedite the project.

All track and field areas, including Field 1, will remain closed until resurfacing is complete. Please continue to check back for updates.
