Bright and Merry Market

Kick off the holiday season at the Bright and Merry Market in November. Held in downtown Oshawa, experience a holiday market, seasonal displays, live entertainment, buskers, and a holiday trolley. Finish your visit by snapping a photo with Santa, along with the tree lighting at 8 p.m.

Bright & Merry visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation to support Feed the Need in Durham. Donation bins will be located at City Hall, The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, and Oshawa Public Libraries - McLaughlin Branch, for the duration of the event.

Entertainment

Enjoy a free epic holiday ride on the fun hop-on, and hop-off Festival Town Trolley for a quick trip around downtown Oshawa. Fun for the whole family! Trolley runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Hop-on and hop-off at any of the following stops:

  • John St. and Centre St. (near Santa’s Igloo!)
  • King St. and Queen St. (in front of the Arts Resource Centre)
  • King St. and Centre St.
  • King St. and Celina St.
  • Celina St. and Bruce St.
  • John St. and Simcoe St

Enjoy great music and fun, festive sing-a-longs for a memorable Bright & Merry Market experience.

Drop into Memorial Park to capture fun photos with illuminated displays, stop by Santa’s igloo and experience a lineup of live entertainment the whole family will enjoy.

Main stage lineup, at the Memorial Park Bandshell, hosted by CKDO Radio Personality Terry Johnson includes:

  • 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. – O’Neill CVI Choir
  • 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – Sam Ninan, Violinist
  • 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. – The Circus Drummer
  • 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. – Interactive Entertainment with DJ Trevor
  • 8 p.m. – Official Tree Lighting in Memorial Park
  • 8:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. – The Circus Drummer

Enjoy holiday fun throughout the downtown core, including:

Civic Square (the outdoor City Hall courtyard):

  • Fun Zone: Holiday fun and Interactive games provided by the Oshawa Youth Council and Recreation Services.
  • Grab an outdoor photo, with a fun (and free!) festive photo booth

Centre St. South:

  • LivingRoom Art Bus – This fun mobile hive will offer free family crafts, inspired by the season.
  • Durham Ways Paint a Bus – An opportunity to showcase your creative talents, grab a paintbrush and make your mark on the oversize yellow canvas.
  • Canadian Tank Museum – Drop by and say hello to the folks from the Canadian Tank Museum and view their military vehicle at Centre St. and John St.

Be sure to drop by Memorial Park to visit with Santa and his elves inside their magic igloo. Santa can’t wait to see those young and young at heart from 5 p.m. to 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Don’t forget to bring your Santa letter to drop into his North Pole mailbox (be sure to put your return address on your letter!).

 

Join us for the official City of Oshawa Tree Lighting at 8 p.m. in Memorial Park. Celebrate the start of the holiday season with friends and family as we brighten the evening at Memorial Park.

Drop into these five fabulous community sites in partnership with the Bright & Merry Market, Friday, November 14. Travel throughout the event space and enjoy the jam packed entertainment at the following indoor spaces:

Canadian Automotive Museum
Admission by donation, Open until 8:30 p.m.
Hop off the Festive Trolley at John. St. and Simcoe St. and drop into the Museum to view the 1966 How the Grinch Stole Christmas film, try your hand at ornament craft making or build your own Delorian! 

Museum tours available at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Oshawa Public Library - McLaughlin Branch
Swing by the Children's Patio entrance, to enjoy fun Children's activities (fun for the whole family!) throughout the evening.

Travel upstairs to the main library to enjoy live musical performance by the Bruce Gorrie Trio from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

OSCC55+ - John St. Branch
A festive Dr. Seuss inspired Whoville will take over the OSCC55+ John St. Branch November 14th. Be sure to drop in to see the wonderland come to life. Fun photo backdrops, hot chocolate and popcorn and countless festive fun. Drop in to say hello.

St. George’s Memorial Church
Doors open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and include festive fun including:

  • 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. - Chimes Music
  • 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Organ Music

The Robert McLaughlin Gallery
Festive music, watch incredible dance performances, embrace Rukus creative zine making for all ages, painting opportunities and festive beverages. There's something for everyone, open until 9 p.m.
