Youth Leadership Camps | City of Oshawa

The City of Oshawa offers youth leadership training camps for individuals aged 12 to 16 during the summer. These camps include the Counsellor in Training (C.I.T.) and Leader in Training courses, designed to foster leadership skills in participants.

Counsellor In Training (C.I.T.)

Prepare to be a camp counsellor through our C.I.T. session. The course consists of one week of in-class theory and two weeks of hands on experience at camp locations throughout the City of Oshawa. Youth 14 to 16 years of age have the opportunity to develop skills in:

program planning
leadership techniques
behaviour management
resume preparation
interviews

Leader In Training

Participants 12 to 14 years of age can gain various leadership skills in a fun and exciting recreation environment. The course consists of in-class theory and lessons, as well as a chance to use skills learned in a camp atmosphere. Develop skills in:

program planning
child/group management
leadership techniques
games/activities
planning
communication skills

Camp registration

Register for a youth leadership training camp online at activeOshawa Online or in person at a City recreation facility

Registrants must submit the necessary camp forms before attending their first day at a youth leadership camp. Find the relevant forms on our Camps page.

Cancellations

If we do not have enough registrants for a program, it will be cancelled. If a youth leadership training camp is cancelled, you will be contacted to choose a different program (if space is available) or receive a full refund.

Waitlists

If your preferred camp is full, join the waitlist at no additional charge. If a spot opens up, our team will contact individuals on the waitlist based on the sign up order.

Refunds

To withdraw from a youth leadership training camp, submit a Course Withdrawal and Refund Request Form.

Full refunds

Full refunds will be issued in the following cases:

The course is cancelled by Recreation Services before the start date.
The participant withdraws at least 7 days before the course starts.

Partial refunds

Partial refunds will be issued in the following cases:

General Courses:

If Recreation Services cancels the course or removes a participant after the course starts, a pro-rated refund will be given based on the number of cancelled/removed classes.
Withdrawals made less than 7 days before the course starts will be charged 20% of the course fee.
Withdrawals before the second class will receive a prorated refund and be charged 20% of the course fee for the remaining classes.
Withdrawals for medical reasons, supported by a doctor's note, will receive a full or pro-rated refund based on the number of classes attended.

Camps and Leadership Courses:

If Recreation Services cancels the course or removes a participant after the course starts, a pro-rated refund will be issued based on the number of cancelled/removed classes.
Withdrawals made 4 to 6 days before the course starts will be charged 20% of the course fee.
Withdrawals for medical reasons, supported by a doctor's note, will receive a full or pro-rated refund based on the number of classes attended.

No refunds

No refunds will be issued in the following cases:

General Courses:

Withdrawals made after the second class.

Camps and Leadership Courses:

Withdrawals made less than 4 days before the course starts.
