Post Construction Information

After construction, community members may have questions or concerns about caring for their newly placed sod.

Sod care tips following installation after a City project

The sod placed in conjunction with this repair work carries a warranty period of 90 days.

What you should know

Please follow the guidelines below for maintaining the new sod.

  1. Community members should not fertilize newly placed sod for at least 30 days after placement to avoid unnecessary sod damage.
  2. New sod is not as deep-rooted as older established lawns and is more susceptible to droughts. During the summer, lawns require about an inch of water per week to maintain growth. Avoid frequent light watering, which will result in shallow rooting.
  3. Newly placed sod should be permitted to grow, and community members should not cut new grass less than 64 mm or 2.5 in.
  4. Some hazards for new sod are chinch bugs, grubs and other pests. Damage of this nature is most apparent when the weather is hot and dry in July and August. The usual sign of damage is a gradually expanding dead spot in the grass. Left untreated by residents, the pests can destroy an entire lawn.
  5. Community members are encouraged to take a little extra care and water the sod thoroughly at reasonable intervals to ensure the grass does not dry out and become susceptible to damage or disease.

Please take care of your new sod by watering it thoroughly.

Regional road projects
