The Large Item Collection Program is for items that are too large to fit into a regular size garbage bag. Residents can book one free collection per calendar year. Additional collections can be booked for $35. Visit the Reducing Your Waste page to learn about appropriate alternatives to sending materials to landfills.

Book a collection

Before booking a large item collection, review the following Terms and Conditions to ensure program compliance. Book large item collections using the button below, or by calling Service Oshawa at 905 436 3311.

If you are eligible for the Large Item Collection Assistance Program or requesting collection for a multi-residential dwelling/building (e.g. a building with three or more dwelling units) or condominium (e.g. townhouse or apartment), the property owner or manager must arrange for collection by calling Service Oshawa at 905-436-3311.

Terms and conditions

It is the responsibility of the community member, property owner, or property manager to review and follow the Terms and Conditions for collection. Failure to follow the requirements below may result in materials not being collected and may be subject to charges under the Waste Collection By-law.

Eligible properties

This service is available to community members living in single-family dwellings, semi-detached, duplexes, or buildings with two or less dwelling units that receive municipal waste collection services.

Community members living in serviced multi-residential buildings with three or more dwelling units, apartment buildings, or condominium townhouse complexes must arrange the collection through the property owner or manager. The property owner or manager must arrange for the large item collection on behalf of the building.

Non-eligible properties

Commercial, industrial, institutional and multi-residential properties that contract out waste collection services are not entitled to receive a large item collection under this program.

Collection requirements

  • book a pick up at least two business days before your regularly scheduled garbage collection day
  • set items at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the day of the collection and no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before the scheduled collection
  • limit of 12 items per collection
  • maximum size of 3 m in length
  • maximum weight of 70 kg
  • bundled items must not exceed 76 cm in length, 36 cm in width, 36 cm in height and be less than 20 kg (44 lbs.)
  • for safety remove all doors from appliances prior to collection
  • Placing items at the curb days in advance will encourage illegal dumping.

Fees

Eligible properties can book one free collection (12 item limit) in a calendar year. Extra collections in a calendar year are available for $35 per collection.

If you are eligible for the Large Item Collection Assistance Program (e.g. a senior or a person with a disability), the fee may be waived. Visit the Garbage, Recycling and Green Bin page for more information on this program.
