Bond Simcoe Urban Square Public Art Open House
The City invites you to a Public Art Open House to learn more about the artworks which have been proposed for the Bond Simcoe Urban Square, located at the intersection of Bond Street East and Simcoe Street North in the heart of Oshawa’s downtown. The short-listed artists will present their proposals to the public at the Open House.
Open House details:
- Date: Tuesday, February 25
- Time: 6:30 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m.
- Location: Arts Resource Centre, located at 45 Queen Street
In the event of bad weather, the Open House will be moved to a virtual event. Please follow the City on social media for updates.
The City launched a cross-country call seeking expressions of interest from artists for the opportunity to create and install a large-scale public sculpture for the forthcoming Urban Square. The short-listed artists selected to develop a detailed proposal for an artwork were:
- Nicholas Crombach
- Brandon Vickerd
- The artist team comprised of Gary Barwin, Simon Frank and Tor Lukasik-Foss
The Urban Square and its artwork reflect the City’s commitment and desire to connect and engage with the community and transform the spaces where we live, work, learn and play into vibrant, inviting and meaningful public spaces. As per the City’s Public Art Policy, a jury consisting of residents and community members will review the proposals and community feedback and make a recommendation for which of the proposed artworks should be acquired for the Urban Square. The artwork is being commissioned as part of the city’s centennial celebrations.
The City recognizes that supporting arts and culture is essential in building a vibrant and creative city. Through the implementation of the Public Art Master Plan, the City of Oshawa provides active leadership and guidance in fostering a strong visual legacy through the creation and inclusion of art in its public buildings and spaces to create vibrant public spaces and meaningful connections.
