100th Anniversary
Planning has begun!
We are working to bring a variety of events and activities to mark the celebration of our 100th anniversary.
There are several ways to participate in the celebration, from joining the Community Centennial Committee to taking part in events and plans leading up to and throughout the anniversary year.
Watch for details coming soon.
Oshawa's history
On March 8, 1924, Oshawa received “City” status with a population of 15,545. In 2024, the City of Oshawa will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and we hope you will join us.
Oshawa has grown and evolved since it became a City in 1924, and recognizing this milestone will create an opportunity to reflect on where the City has come from and look ahead to where we could go.
Oshawa Landmark Sign
A group of community members, known as the Oshawa Sign Team, have launched a project to fundraise for the creation of a local landmark sign.
How to take part
The Oshawa Sign Team is currently accepting donations from residents, businesses and organizations to fund the creation of a new Landmark sign in downtown Oshawa. If you’d like to donate please complete the donation form.
All donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt, which will be issued upon project completion.
About the Landmark Sign
The public will be engaged to select the final design of the sign, which is expected to be installed in the summer of 2024 in the North Parkette (near King Street West and Centre Street South). The final design concept and location will be finalized subject to the City's discretion.
The Oshawa Sign Team’s goal is to promote civic pride and a sense of community by raising sufficient funds from community members and businesses to erect the Landmark Sign. If not enough funds are raised, City staff will consult with the Oshawa Sign Team and report to City Council about alternate options. In the event the project is cancelled for any reason, all donations will be refunded back to the donor and no tax receipt will be issued. If the total donations received exceed the cost of the fabricating and installing the sign, the excess funds will be placed in a reserve account and applied to costs for future maintenance and programming.
