Celebrate the New Year with us!

Thank you to all staff, volunteers, performers and our sponsors for making this a successful event this year!

Our guests were treated to free skating, swimming, live entertainment, a petting zoo, murals and crafts!

We wish you all a happy and prosperous 2023!

The Oshawa Public presents: Magician Owen Anderson! Tickets are free and limited to 75 per show. They will be available outside the Library door at the event. Tickets go fast, be sure to get yours early.

Swimming

Swims have limits on the number of participants. Wristbands will be handed out by the pool for each swim.

Swim Times:

6 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.

7:45 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Swim tests will not be performed during this event.

Due to the volume of guests at this event, we are not able to look up Swim Test passes. Swimmers who have earned their Oshawa Swim Test card must show it to be issued a their appropriate wristband.

Main reception is open for the event to assist with event logistics; they will not be processing registrations, rentals or memberships during the event.

All Regular Admission Standards will be in place. (See below for Standards)

Skating

Skates have a limit on the number of participants allowed on the ice at one time. Wristbands will be provided at each pad for the skates.

Pad 1

6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

7:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Pad 3

6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Pad 4

6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

7:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Skaters 5 years and younger must wear a C.S.A. approved hockey helmet.

All skaters are strongly encouraged to wear a C.S.A. approved hockey helmet.

Main reception is open for the event to assist with event logistics; they will not be processing registrations, rentals or memberships during the event.

All regular skating admission rules will be in place. (See below for rules)

 Event Specific Swimming Admission Standards

Due to the volume of patrons attending this event, swim tests will not be performed and those who possess a City of Oshawa Swim Test card will be required to show proof. We are unable to look up swim tests at this event. 

Age Admission Standards:

  • Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a caregiver who is at least 14 years of age and is responsible for their direct supervision and within arm's reach in the water (unless they have a valid City of Oshawa Swim Test card), with a maximum of 2 children for each caregiver.
  • Children 0-6 yrs. - must have a caregiver in the water providing direct supervision and within arm's reach regardless of child's swimming ability and who is participating in the water..
  • Children 7-9 yrs. - if they have passed the City of Oshawa swim test and can provide the swim test card, may swim under the supervision of a caregiver who is also participating in the water.
  • Children 7-9 yrs. - if they unable to show their City of Oshawa swim test card or they have not passed the City of Oshawa swim test, will be required to swim within arm's reach of a guardian who is participating in the water.
  • There is a maximum of 2 children (under the age of 10 yrs, who cannot provide a City of Oshawa Swim Test card at the Event) per caregiver (who is at least 14 yrs.). The guardian must be in proper swimming attire and participating in the water, while directly supervising the children.

Other:

  • No street shoes on the deck
  • Proper swimming attire is required, no cut-offs or undergarments
  • During this event only: all changerooms will be open, families of same gender may use their specific changeroom.
  • Caregivers may not leave children unaccompanied in the changeroom, water, on the deck or in the viewing gallery, this includes infants in strollers or car seats.
  • Cubicles may not be saved, all articles must be removed after changing. There are lockers available for use, patrons are encouraged to use the lockers.
  • Lifeguards are there for safety, all patrons must obey the lifeguards at all times.

Understanding the whistle sounds:

  • One short blast means patron alert or look at the Lifeguard

  • Two short blasts used for lifeguard communication to draw attention to another lifeguard or area of the pool

  • Three long blasts is used to clear the pool - all patrons must immediately vacate pool

Swim Admission Standards

Lazy River:

Those 18 years of age and older and children who have completed the facility swim test (with a green wristband) are permitted in the lazy river.

  • Youth 10 to 17 years who have not completed their swim test may enter while properly wearing a personal flotation device (P.F.D.)
  • Children seven to nine years who have not completed their swim test (yellow band) may enter while properly wearing a P.F.D. as long as they are within arm's reach of a caregiver 14 years of age or older
  • Children six years and under may only enter if they have completed the facility swim test and they are within arm's reach of a caregiver who is 14 years of age or older
  • No more than 30 participants are permitted in the lazy river at any given time

Slide Rules:

  • All riders must be 1.065 m (42 in) tall to ride the water slide
  • No diving, running, standing, kneeling, rotating or stopping in the channel
  • Hands must be kept inside the channel
  • Riders must leave the splashdown area promptly
  • No one shall bring glass, bottles or food into the water slide area
  • Bunching or chaining by riders is prohibited
  • Riders are not allowed to propel or push themselves down the slide to speed up the ride
  • Riders are not permitted to stand in the launch area

Admission Standards

Event Specific Skating Admission Standards

General rules

  • Be considerate of the rules for the safety and enjoyment of all skaters
  • C.S.A. approved hockey helmets are recommended for all skaters
  • C.S.A. approved hockey helmets are mandatory for children five years or younger
  • Respect and follow instructions from skate patrol staff at all times
  • Report all accidents or injuries to skate patrol or arena staff immediately
  • Children seven years or younger must be accompanied and supervised on the ice by a caregiver 14 years of age or older.
  • Maximum of three children per caregiver
  • Children eight to ten years of age must be supervised by a caregiver who is at least 14 years of age, with a maximum of three children per caregiver. Caregivers are not required to go on the ice.
  • Only persons wearing skates are allowed on the ice
  • Enter onto the ice surface only after the ice resurfacer is off the ice, the doors are closed, and skate patrol staff are on the ice

The following are not permitted at any time:

  • Carrying children while skating on the ice, including baby carriers.
  • Headsets, phones, and hand-held electronic devices
  • Food and drinks
  • Strollers (unless used for accessibility purposes), chairs, sleds and toboggans
  • Games, tag, rough play, figure skating moves, backward, erratic or excessive speed skating

The following applies to the use of skating aids, accessibility strollers, wheelchairs and ice sledges:

  • Skating aids are allowed in designated areas. You must bring your own
  • Accessibility strollers or wheelchairs are allowed on the ice as long as the wheels are clean
  • Persons accompanying someone in an accessibility stroller, wheelchair, or an ice sledge must wear skates and be able to skate
