The program celebrates projects that show excellent design and enhance the city's image. The program acknowledges the contributions that architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, developers, and builders make to Oshawa's appearance and quality of life.

Eleven local projects were honoured as 2022 Urban Design Award winners. Ten projects received an Award of Excellence and one project received a Special Recognition Award for demonstrating excellence in urban design and for enhancing the image of the city and quality of life.

The next Urban Design Awards will be in 2026.

2022 Winners

The 2022 Urban Design Award of Excellence winners are:

  • Brent Jeffrey, 31 Beatrice Street East (three-storey apartment building)
  • Frère Du Nord, 45 – 47 Prince Street (renovation of existing two storey building to create residential flats above commercial space)
  • Kiya Developments, 485 Bloor Street East (two two-storey stacked townhouse buildings)
  • Panattoni Development Company Canada, 1121 and 1147 Thornton Road South (multi-unit industrial building)
  • Shawenjigewining Hall, Ontario Tech University, 40 Founders Drive
  • St. Anne Catholic Elementary School, Durham Catholic District School Board, 2465 Bridle Road
  • Summers & Co. Developments and CPPI Group, 70 King Street East (adaptive re-use of former Genosha Hotel for residential apartments with ground floor commercial units)
  • The Bartlett Retirement Apartments, 550 Bond Street West
  • Trent University Durham GTA, 75 Thornton Road South (five-storey academic and student residence building)
  • University Towns, Podium Development Corp., 1800 Simcoe Street North (four four-storey stacked townhouse buildings and one four-storey mixed-use residential/commercial building)

The 2022 Urban Design Special Recognition Award has been awarded to CIMA+ for the design and development of the Lakeview Park Playground and Splash Pad located at 55 Lakeview Park Avenue.
