2023 National Youth Week

Every year during the first week of May, we celebrate the youth in our community!

National Youth Week is an annual, week-long series of events and activities dedicated to youth. Events are designed to celebrate youth culture and are planned and coordinated by the Oshawa Youth Council (O.Y.C.) in collaboration with City staff. Free admission for youth during National Youth Week!

Fun Swim

Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Location: South Oshawa Community Centre,1455 Cedar St. Oshawa
Registration: drop-in only
Description: Kick off National Youth Week with free admission for youth to the Fun Swim at the South Oshawa Community Centre!  The slide and water features will be operating during this swim. All leisure swimming rules will apply.

Public Skate

Time: 4:30 p.m. to 5:50 p.m.
Location: Delpark Homes Centre, 1661 Harmony Rd. N. Oshawa
Registration: drop-in only
Description: Feel like a skate? Join us for a Public Skate at the Delpark Homes Centre with free admission for youth.  Hemy Pro Shop on-site is offering 50 percent off skate rentals for youth during this skate. Call ahead to arrange sizing at 1-416-560-1104.

Teen Graphic Novel Book Club

Time: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Location: Jess Hann Branch of Oshawa Public Libraries, 199 Wentworth St. W. Oshawa
Ages: 12 to 18 years  
Registration: drop-in only
Description: Do you love reading graphic novels, manga, and comic books?  So do we! Visit the Jess Hann Branch, where we’ll show off our newest titles and spend time exploring the collection, reading together, and talking about our favourite books!

Description: Embrace creativity with our youth led Paint Night. Register online or in-person at your nearest City of Oshawa recreation facility to guarantee your spot.

RMG Fridays

Time: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Location: Robert McLaughlin Gallery,72 Queen St. Oshawa
Registration: drop-in only
Description: Youth are welcome to stop by the Robert McLaughlin Gallery’s first Friday event.  RMG Fridays are free community events that bring together various art forms.  Activities may include live music, performances, film screenings with DRIFF (Durham Region International Film Festival), exhibition tours, artist talks, and highlight community partners and local businesses.  For more information, visit the RMG Fridays event page.

Oshawa Youth Council (O.Y.C.)

The Oshawa Youth Council is proud to to be a part of National Youth Week each year. The O.Y.C. hosts free events planned by youth to provide spaces to share their creativity and connect with others.

To become an Oshawa Youth Council member, fill out the O.Y.C. Application Form and email the completed form to O.Y.C. staff or drop it off at one of our recreation facilities.
