Metrolinx notice: Geotechnical Investigations
Metrolinx is preparing for the future Bowmanville Extension project, which will extend Lakeshore East GO rail service through Central Oshawa to Courtice and Bowmanville.
Why: Peto MacCallum and its drilling subcontractor will be working at 135 sites along the planned extension alignment to conduct geotechnical investigations. These investigations are required to confirm geotechnical conditions at critical locations to help inform the design of future infrastructure upgrades that will improve transit in your community.
When: July 16 to December 2025
Details:
During this period, work is scheduled to take place Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. However, working hours may be extended or rescheduled due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
What to expect:
Residents should expect some noise, vibration, and dust due to construction activities. Site lighting maybe utilized if necessary and will be pointed away from homes.
Staff will take reasonable precautions to minimize disturbances to residents and commuters, including but not limited to the following:
- Reduced idling of non-essential equipment.
- Safely securing the work area.
- White noise backup alarms on vehicles and machinery as required.
- Safety signage will be in place, and crews will follow all applicable safety and environmental guidelines.
- Once work is completed the affected areas will be restored to original conditions
Pedestrian details:
Pedestrians are kindly reminded to exercise caution when navigating near active construction zones, and to comply with all posted signage, instructions and safety measures in place to protect both the public and onsite personnel.
Traffic and transit details:
Where needed, traffic control measures and personnel will be set up to assist with directing traffic. Full road closures are not anticipated as part of this work.
Project information is available on oshawa.ca/GOEastDurham. Community members are encouraged to subscribe to Road and Sidewalk Closures to receive roadway closures. For project-related questions and comments, email [email protected] or visit the Lakeshore East Line GO Expansion website.
