Celebrate safely: Fireworks tips and neighbourly reminders for Canada Day

As we prepare to celebrate Canada Day, Oshawa Fire Services reminds community members to keep fire safety and their neighbours in mind when lighting fireworks.
Under the City’s Fireworks By-law, community members can discharge Consumer (Family) Fireworks on their private property without a permit between dusk and 11 p.m. on:
- Victoria Day (May 19, 2025);
- Canada Day (July 1, 2025); and,
- Diwali (October 20, 2025).
Using fireworks outside the allotted time can result in fines of up to $100,000. Learn...

Beach season begins: Lifejackets, lifeguards and ways to stay cool

Lakeview Park Beach is now open for the season with lifeguards on duty from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., weather and conditions permitting, until September 1.
The free Lifejacket Loaner Program sponsored by Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA Ports) is back. Lifejackets in various sizes are available at Lakeview Park Beach during and outside lifeguard hours. Free drop-in playground program returns to Oshawa parks this summer

Summer playground programs are coming to a neighbourhood park near you beginning Wednesday, July 2. Children aged 5 to 12 are invited to participate in our Drop-in Playground Program, which offers a free, summer camp experience featuring games, crafts, songs, and other engaging activities led by trained Play Leaders. In addition, our Preschool Playground Program is available for children aged 3 to 5, operating twice weekly at select locations. Parent/guardian participation is required.
