Start planning for fall activeOshawa programs

The City of Oshawa will release the fall/winter edition of the activeOshawa Recreation Guide on Wednesday, August 14 at Oshawa.ca/activeOshawa.
The City will open registration for fall swimming lessons only on Tuesday, August 20, at 9 a.m. Registration for general fall recreation programs, including arts and crafts, dance, music, fitness, and holiday camps, will begin on Thursday, August 22, at 9 a.m.

Oshawa hosts 2024 Regional FireFit Championships

More than 300 first responders will be competing when the City of Oshawa hosts the 2024 Eastern Ontario Regional FireFit Championships from August 9 - 11 at Delpark Homes Centre.
This competition provides community members a front-row seat as teams and individual firefighters from all over Ontario go head-to-head on tasks based on real-life emergencies.

Game on: Dale Hawerchuk Park opens with a faceoff

The new Dale Hawerchuk Park officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, where Oshawa City Council and the late legend’s family and friends honoured him with a friendly game of street hockey.
In 2020, City Council unanimously approved naming the park in honour of Dale Hawerchuk, a decorated hockey hero who grew up in Oshawa before drawing the attention of Junior and National Hockey League (NHL) scouts.

Durham Region’s Blue Box program transitions to producer responsibility

Starting July 1, 2024, Durham’s Blue Box program will transition to being delivered by an organization named, “Circular Materials” on behalf of all producers of the products and packaging recycled in the Blue Box within Ontario. Although the responsibility for the blue box recycling program is changing, there will be no immediate change to how residents recycle during the transition period.

Oshawa City Council recently recognized three properties in Oshawa as being of cultural heritage value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act:
- Union Cemetery (760 King St. W.)
