City of Oshawa and Trent University to offer financial support to Oshawa students in need

The City of Oshawa and Trent University have created a dedicated endowment fund to provide support to Oshawa students attending the University’s Durham GTA campus.
Beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year, the City of Oshawa Student Bursaries Endowment Fund will support students who reside in Oshawa, are enrolled at Trent University Durham GTA and have demonstrated socio-economic need.

Oshawa sets another building record in June amid pandemic

Year-to-date construction value issued in Oshawa has already exceeded 2019’s total construction value by $8 million, with the City of Oshawa setting yet another building record last month: the highest June for industrial permit value ($62.93 million) since 1986 ($16.47 million).
Four major projects issued in June 2020 contributed to these milestones:

Oshawa’s Building Services goes fully digital

The City of Oshawa is pleased to announce that Building Permit and Inspection Services is now fully digital!
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Building Services has found innovative ways to use existing technologies to digitize its processes and service delivery. The City is now able to accept permit applications, take payments, review, add comments and issue building permits all without paper and with City staff mostly working remotely.

Durham Region Notice: Durham Region’s Automated Speed Enforcement cameras deployed for data collection

Durham Region’s Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras have been deployed and are in some school zones and designated Community Safety Zones on Regional Roads. At this time, the ASE cameras will be operating in data collection mode and no fines will be issued.
ASE is a tool used to help improve road user safety by increasing speed compliance, altering driver behaviour and increasing public awareness about the critical need to slow down in school zones and community safety zones.

Oshawa sets three more building records in April amid pandemic

Construction value issued in Oshawa saw an increase in the previous two months, with the City of Oshawa setting three building records for the month of April 2020:
- Highest April for Residential permit value ($124.4 million, surpassing $63.4 million set in 2015).
- Highest April for number of Apartment Units (371 units, surpassing 171 units record set in 1981).
