Job Description
Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations Safety & Training, or designate, be responsible for assisting the Supervisor, Operations Safety and Training in performing duties associated with the Community & Operations Services Department.
Responsibilities
- Duties include coordinating the development, maintenance and delivery of the all equipment and vehicle Training Programs, including training and testing staff in a classroom setting and in the field.
- Assisting in delivering the Safety Training Programs, including assisting with developing training modules, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines and conducting training sessions
- Conduct testing on all operational equipment in accordance with required legislation and report test results to managers
- Investigating and reporting on collisions and incidents involving Community Services vehicles and equipment and recommending required follow-up actions
- Coordinating and record keeping of all driver/ operator training and driving files.
- Preform Field Safety Audits
- Weekly Pre-Trip Inspection Audits
- Filling in for the Operational Safety and Training Coordinator in his/her absence
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Knowledge and skill generally associated with the completion of a Heavy Equipment Certificate or a two (2) year Construction, Safety and/or Training Program from a recognized Community College would be considered an asset, and four (4) years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- Extensive practical knowledge and experience in the operation of municipal and construction mobile equipment, machinery and tools
- Preference will be given to candidates who have Fleet Driver Trainer Certification, Advanced Communication Training, Accident Investigation and Prevention Training and Train the Trainer Certificate
- Possess initiative, self-motivation, sound judgment and tact
- Extensive and practical knowledge on varies types of equipment listed under Type A,B,C,D. (Combo Truck, Street Flusher, Street Sweeper, Side Walk Sweeper, Refuse Packers Loader, Grader, Excavator, Skid Steer)
- Extensive practical knowledge and experience in safe work methods and practices relating to municipal maintenance and construction operations
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written to deal effectively and tactfully with a broad range of staff, external agencies, and the general public
- Good organizational abilities and the ability to maintain accurate and neat work records, and to work effectively under pressure
- Possess knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including WHMIS regulations, Highway Traffic Act, CVOR and other relevant legislation
- Driving record must allow candidate to meet and maintain Ministry of Transportation Signing Authority qualifications, minimum class “DZ” in good standing showing no demerit points
- Established skills and experience in Microsoft Office and related software applications
