The City of Oshawa is excited to launch a new look and feel in the downtown core. DTO, Downtown Oshawa’s new visual brand identify, reflects the qualities that attract residents, businesses, students and visitors to our urban core.

DTO represents the strength and vibrancy of our downtown residents and businesses who have built and continue to evolve the area. The DTO visual identity features DTO forms inspired by the area’s bold architecture that provide a flexible and adaptable canvas to showcase the creativity, innovation, and humanity of Downtown Oshawa. Accompanying the logo, the new brand emphasizes real photography of real Downtown Oshawa people – entrepreneurs, residents, students, artists, and community-builders. The DTO identity evolved through a comprehensive discovery phase and involved the voices and perspectives of those within and around Downtown Oshawa. Like Downtown Oshawa, the DTO identity is designed to be alive – always evolving and growing.

The DTO launch will be initiated with a series of visual assets expressing the look and feel of the new downtown identity:

  • Updating and re-launching @OshawaDowntown social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram
  • Street banners in the new year
  • New dedicated website content on Oshawa.ca/Downtown.
  • Direct mail campaign to downtown residents in support of local businesses
  • Local advertising in newspapers and select City recreational facilities

The visual brand identity project took place over nine weeks and included extensive consultation with the public and downtown stakeholders. Community engagement on the proposed visual identify included one-on-one consultations with downtown stakeholders as well as a feedback form that was completed by more than 150 community members. Final visual identify concepts were presented to the Development Services Committee followed by City Council in June 2022.

Quote:

“As the Mayor of the great City of Oshawa, I am incredibly excited to see this bold and dynamic new look and feel for our downtown. DTO illustrates the very best of Downtown Oshawa and speaks to the vibrancy of the area,” said Mayor Dan Carter.

“As the only true metropolitan-like downtown of its kind in the eastern G.T.A., Downtown Oshawa is a cultural and entertainment hub, major employment district and a significant and dynamic destination within our region,” said Councillor Tito-Dante Marimpietri, Chair of the Economic and Development Services Committee. “The DTO visual identity reflects the strength and resilience of the people who have built and continue to evolve the downtown as the heart and soul of our community.”
