Metrolinx Notice: GO Expansion Early Works at Oshawa Station
As part of the GO Expansion project, Oshawa GO Station is scheduled for a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade. Prior to construction at the station, early works activities are required to help make upcoming construction safer and more efficient. This work will support future track and infrastructure updates. For safety reasons, some work may take place overnight when revenue trains are not in service.
What: Early works activities to support construction may include:
- Staging area and trailer site setup
- Set up of a continuous work and safety zone (CWZ)
- Fencing and temporary noise barrier installations
- Site clearing and tree/vegetation removals
- Soil, sediment and environmental controls
- Relocating underground utilities
- Groundwork and earthwork
When: September 19, 2025 to Spring 2026
During this period, work is scheduled to take place Monday to Friday, during daytime hours from 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. for approximately six months. Crews will occupy a staging area and trailer site just south of the west overflow parking lot at 2099 Victoria St. E., near the Lakeshore East rail corridor. This site, located just west of Oshawa Station, will support early works activities and major construction, which begins in spring 2026. More information will be provided in advance.
Work will take place within and outside the rail corridor. The scope of work is subject to change and may be rescheduled due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience and ask for your patience as we complete this critical work.
What to expect:
GO customers, commuters and businesses can expect some noise, vibration, dust and a visual presence of construction crews at staging areas and trailer sites near the rail corridor.
Staff will take reasonable precautions to minimize disturbances to residents and communities, including but not limited to:
- Reduced idling of non-essential equipment
- Routing construction vehicles on designated access routes only, via major roads to avoid congestion on local roads
- Enclosing work areas with gates and fencing to create physical barriers that safely separate the public from construction activities.
Pedestrian details:
There are no expected impacts to pedestrians, motorists, transit or parking space availability. Motorists can expect the entrance to the west parking lot to be shared by station customers, construction vehicles and construction staff. Traffic control personnel may direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely around active work zones, as required. Please exercise caution in and around work areas.
