Oshawa announces exciting updates on three new outdoor spaces
The City of Oshawa is pleased to share construction updates on three exciting new outdoor destinations.
Rose Valley Community Park – A Multi-Use Destination opening this summer
Located at 1095 Thornton Rd. North, Rose Valley Community Park is quickly taking shape as a vibrant recreation destination.
Key amenities are already complete, including: pickleball courts, the B.M.X. park, new playground area with rubber safety surfacing, shade structures, and a washroom building.
Construction continues with other features such as bike tracks, formal gardens and asphalt paving and natural turf sports field. Next steps include completion of an operations storage building, a pedestrian crosswalk across Thornton Road and final landscape planting.
The work is expected to be completed later this summer. Mark your calendars for the grand opening celebration on Saturday, October 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Rotary Park Redevelopment – the City’s Centennial Legacy Project
Rotary Park, located at 254 Centre St. S., is undergoing a major redevelopment that celebrates nearly 100 years of community enjoyment. As the City’s Legacy Project for Oshawa’s Centennial, the park’s transformation includes:
- a new outdoor pool with four lanes, a zero-entry area and toddler zone;
- a splash pad and destination playground;
- a new parking lot and accessible pathways; and,
- site amenities and landscaping.
Despite weather and supply chain-related delays, construction continues, and completion is expected later in 2025.
Thank you to the community for your patience during the delays — we are pleased to share that we will be offering free swims during the 2026 season as a gesture of our appreciation!
Downtown Urban Square – A new hub in Oshawa’s downtown
Construction is progressing on the Downtown Urban Square, located at the intersection of Bond St. E. and Simcoe St. N.
The project is currently in its site preparation stage, with work underway to install underground services, prepare subgrade elevations, and place granular base material. Upcoming work includes hardscape installation, site furnishings, plantings and site lighting.
Once completed in fall 2025, the Square will serve as a dynamic community hub, hosting events, celebrations, concerts and more.
