Notice of Hazardous Creek Conditions until March 10
The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority advises that the Surface Water Monitoring Centre (SWMC) of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is tracking a low-pressure system expected to move through our area over the next 3 days, beginning tomorrow afternoon.
35 to 40mm of precipitation could be seen between tomorrow and Sunday, with the majority of rain falling on Saturday. Wet soil conditions combined with the forecasted incoming precipitation will result in substantial runoff causing higher than normal water levels and flows in our streams. Widespread flooding is not anticipated, however fast flowing water and flooding of low lying areas and roadways may be expected in flood prone areas.
The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority is asking all residents to stay away from all watercourses, shorelines, and structures such as bridges, culverts and dams. Increased wave activity, elevated water levels, fast flowing water, and slippery conditions along stream banks and Lake Ontario shorelines continue to make these locations extremely dangerous. Please remind children of these dangers.
This Water Safety Statement will be in effect through Sunday March 10, 2024. or until further notice. The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority will continue to monitor the conditions of the streams and will provide updates as required.
