Oshawa celebrates Pinecrest Park’s new playground and splash pad
The City of Oshawa celebrated the completion of the Pinecrest Park redevelopment project with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The park redevelopment project was made possible by $483,000 in funding from the Government of Canada’s Canada Community-Building Fund.
The 1.55-hectare park is located at 1350 Beatrice St. E., west of Townline Road (south of Taunton Road). The park features new play equipment, an accessible swing, accessible park pathways, seating, a soccer field and a new splash pad. Tree plantings provide shade and habitat.
Community engagement informed the new playground equipment included in the park design.

“Investing in recreational infrastructure, such as Pinecrest Park, makes our communities vibrant and enjoyable places to live. The redevelopment of Pinecrest Park creates a safe, comfortable, and accessible place for all residents to get active and gather as a community. By providing communities with flexible and permanent sources of funding, like the Canada Community-Building Fund, we are supporting them to make strategic investments that benefit all Canadians,” said Ryan Turnbull, Member of Parliament for Whitby, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities.
“As Mayor, I am honoured to celebrate the official re-opening of Pinecrest Park – a vibrant addition to the great City of Oshawa,” said Mayor Dan Carter. “With new amenities and a splash pad, this park promises endless joy and excitement for all ages and abilities. Thank you to the federal government and its Canada Community-Building Fund for making these park upgrades possible.”
“One of my favourite things as Chair of the Safety and Facilities Services Committee is seeing the revitalization of our existing parks and public spaces,” said Councillor Brian Nicholson, Chair of the Safety and Facilities Services Committee. “Pinecrest Park will be a focal point for years to come in this neighbourhood. Thank you to Mayor Carter and the Ward 3 Councillors, Bob Chapman and Brad Marks, for their support of this project.”
“Pinecrest Park’s new splash pad, play equipment, soccer field and accessible features create an inviting and inclusive space for outdoor activities and foster a sense of community. The upgrades ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, will enjoy this park,” said Councillor Rick Kerr, Vice-Chair of the Safety and Facilities Services Committee.
“The park’s new design and additional features have already been well used this summer as I see many enjoying themselves when I drive by. It is also great news that the park is one of the City’s locations for the free Playground Program,” said Ward 3 Regional & City Councillor Bob Chapman.
“The opening of Pinecrest Park is a moment of celebration for this area and our community,” said Councillor Bradley Marks, Ward 3 City Councillor. “It is wonderful to see the new park features – especially the new splash pad, playground, walkways and shaded areas – being enjoyed by so many in this family neighbourhood.”
