Oshawa's Summer Kick-Off: Festivals, Events and Increased Traffic – Plan Ahead!
As the warm weather returns and summer approaches, the City of Oshawa is excited to welcome the vibrant season of festivals and community events. From June 6 to 8, several events will be taking place across Oshawa and in nearby communities, bringing people together to celebrate, connect, and enjoy all that our city and region has to offer.
The City is excited to present the 21st annual Peony Festival on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 at the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens (155 Arena St.). Named one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals and Events for the 12th year running, the festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features one of Canada’s largest contemporary peony collections, along with hundreds of cut blooms displayed inside the arena during the Canadian Peony Society judged show.
As part of Bike Month, the City is inviting residents to join Oshawa Community Bike Ride on Saturday, June 7 at 9:00 a.m. to cycle from City Hall, travelling along the Joesph Kolodzie Oshawa Bike Path to Lakeview Park and back.
In addition to the Peony Festival and Community Bike Ride, Oshawa and our nearby communities will be welcoming other community events.
With this increase in activity, residents and visitors should be aware that higher volumes of traffic are expected on our highways, local roads, recreational trails, greenspaces and parks throughout the weekend. We encourage everyone to plan their travel times accordingly, consider alternative routes, and allow for extra time when travelling. Motorists are reminded to obey posted speed limits and signage and drive cautiously in areas with higher activity, pedestrians and cyclists.
These events are a wonderful opportunity to experience the energy and diversity of our community. Festivals and gatherings support local culture and businesses and help foster a sense of belonging and pride in our city. We encourage residents to participate in the festivities and to extend a warm welcome to visitors exploring Oshawa for the first time – or returning to enjoy it once again.
Let’s celebrate the kick-off of the season together and make this a safe, enjoyable, and memorable weekend for all.
