Proclamation - McLaughlin Day
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS the late Colonel R.S. McLaughlin was an industrial pioneer in the Canadian automotive industry;
AND WHEREAS the late Colonel R.S. McLaughlin contributed greatly and generously to the quality of life of the citizens of Oshawa, in medical care facilities, recreation, literature, culture, science and education;
AND WHEREAS the late Colonel R.S. McLaughlin through such activities was the leading citizen in the City of Oshawa for many years and played a vital part in the life of our community, our Province and our Nation;
AND WHEREAS Colonel R.S. McLaughlin served the Ontario Regiment (RCAC) commissioned as Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel from 1921 until 1931 and as Honorary Colonel from 1931 until 1967 – Canada’s longest serving ‘Honorary Colonel’;
AND WHEREAS in honour of the late Colonel R.S. McLaughlin, his many contributions to our community and the philanthropic and humanitarian nature in which he cared for his fellow citizens over the years, the Council of the City of Oshawa by resolution directed the proclamation of the first Monday in August of each year as a civic holiday in the City to be known as “McLaughlin Day”;
NOW THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the City of Oshawa, I do hereby proclaim
Monday, August 1, 2022 a civic holiday in the City of Oshawa to be known as “McLaughlin Day”.
